You might be able to solve some problems by running a troubleshooter that will automatically fix some common issues with Windows Update. May 22, 2015 I've downloaded the Windows codec pack and the Canon codec pack but they either don't support the G1X. Canon Ir2017 Photocopier Driver. II or my 64-bit OS, or both. Not included in any codec I've been able to find for Windows 8.1. How to display RAW in Windows 7.

Their subscription costs $70 a month, far more then I spent on previous versions of the software. I can work around that by using their free converter to DNG. However file explorer does not allow me to view DNG files or CR2 files (my camera raw files).
Being able to view the thumbnails in file explorer is not essential however it is helpful. Canon supplies a codec however it is not for Windows 8.1 64 bit. Either they haven't got to it yet or they figure there is no need since Microsoft has dealt with it already.
I have a new machine that I assembled. I installed Windows 8.0 64 bit and upgraded to 8.1 The machine is pretty ordinary. It has two screens and 32GB of memory and is used for photoshop. It seems silly to have to buy third party software because Microsoft's update won't install and won't tell why.
