Indian Psychiatric Society in collaboration with Bombay Psychiatric Society has arranged the first conference in Mumbai at the main Auditorium of B L Nair Hospital, Mumbai Central on 10th March, to address mental health issues faced by LGBT community.

The aim is to positively impact LGBT community by being better equipped to help them. Along with many renowned speakers, the president of Indian Psychiatric Society Dr. Ajit Bhide will talk about sexual identity issues of LGBT community ( 02.20 pm session). Maharashtra Medical Council has accredited this conference as an academic event and more than 450 professionals have registered for it. Unique and India’s first first ever initiative called Health Professions for Queer Indians (HPQI), which is started by a group of doctors, will be launched by Devdutt Pattanaik and Dr. Bhide at the conference ( 12.50 pm session). The aim of this initiative is to “ Sensitise healthcare professionals to the healthcare needs of the LGBT community“. This forum will be instrumental in conducting training and awareness programs in various medical colleges, medical conferences and hospitals to increase awareness about healthcare needs of the LGBT community in the medical fraternity. By Jan 28, 2018 , Color positive is a theatrical production house started by Savio Mascarenhas based out of Mumbai that deals with the taboo around LGBTQIA community in India and worldwide.

They are a motley bunch of independent professionals from different streams who share this belief and are dedicated to keeping narrating more stories and conversations around it. Their first play “Color Positive” was screened as a part of Queer azaadi Mumbai pride month last year in January. The play color positive was about Fear, Love and Acceptance by breaking all stereotypes. It highlighted the struggles around homosexual relationships and the stigma around HIV positive individuals.
